Safety

The Lindisfarne (Holy Island) causeway is covered with sea water at every high tide at which point there is no access on or off the Island. The white 'rescue-box' provides safety for pedestrians caught unaware. (September 7, 2013)

Watercolor

Wet on wet painting of a seascape. The colors blend together naturally. Gray tones down the yellows and blues. I tried to capture the same as a sunset over the ocean with the same colors.

Adopted

This is a watercolor rendition of a tile mosaic under the freeway at Lomas Santa Fe. We were on an all staff retreat with Larry Warner and I took a walk. The topic was our identity in Christ, and I chose "adopted". The readings were all about being a loved child of God. When I saw this mosaic "wave" and the heart being swept up into that wave, I thought about how we are loved by God among many, and how that one heart is signficant. I wrote around the outside a verse from Romans 8 that speaks of our adoption. "When he adopted you as his own children, he sent his Spirit into our hearts... and we cry 'Abba, Father.'" Painting this was a cool reflection on what it means to be loved by God.

Fishing Boats in Nerja

These are fishing boats on the beach in Nerja, Spain. In the background is the Balcon de Europa. I attempted to paint with less detail in watercolor this time. For example, the people are just shapes and the buildings on the cliffs are just roof lines. It brought back great memories of our sabbatical in 1997, and our weekend trip to the southern coast of Spain from our two month home base in Madrid.

This is a watercolor of what I remember from the wilderness in Israel. The green pastures are the oasis in the midst of the desert. This is all I need, the sheep says of what his shepherd provides for him. "I shall not want." And this is why a shepherd is so important. The sheep would never make it to the oasis without the shepherd's lead, his voice, his care. I painted this on our All Staff Spiritual Retreat--we reflected on Psalm 23 and John 10. I wrote a poem.
